CSAS was represented by Pradeep Raj Pandey and Dr. Jan Sharma in the Governance and Economic Integration working group meetings hosted by NESA Center, National Defense University of the U.S. It was held in Colombo from March 11-13, 2012.
In cooperation with the KAS, CSAS organized a regional conference on the above theme on March 12-13, 2012 in Kathmandu. Vice-President Parmananda Jha inaugurated the conference which was attended by Maj. Gen. (retd.) Dipankar Banerjee, Ambassador Meera Shankar and Maj. Gen. (retd.) Ramesh Chopra from India, Amb. Shamshad Ahmad, Prof. Arshi Saleem Hashmi from Pakistan, Ms. Mariam Safi (Afghanistan), Amb. Nihal Rodrigo (Sri Lanka) and Faiz Sobhan (Bangladesh). Tomislav Delinic, Head of the regional program (SAARC) and Marcel Schepp of the KAS also participated along with a large number of Nepali academics and policy makers.
India’s National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon released a new book with the above title at a program organized by the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies in cooperation with the KAS in Delhi on March 2. The Nepal chapter in the volume is authored by Mr. Nishchal N. Pandey.
In cooperation with the KAS, a regional conference on 'Environmental Issues: Water and Disaster Management' was held at the Yak & Yeti hotel. Secretary of the Ministry of Environment of Nepal Mr. Krishna Gyawali was the chief guest. Participants from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Bhutan presented papers.
CSAS in cooperation with the KAS, organized a regional conference on the above theme at Hotel Soaltee on Nov. 6-8, 2011. Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal inaugurated the conference. Dr. Friedbert Pfluger, former deputy minister of Defense of Germany was a guest of honor. Participants from SAARC countries presented papers. CSAS will soon be publishing a book as proceedings of the conference.
CSAS in cooperation with RCSS, Colombo and GPPAC (The Netherlands) organized a 2-day international conference on the above theme on Oct. 23-24, 2011. SAARC Secretary General Uz. Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed inaugurated the conference. Amb. Nihal Rodrigo, Amb. Veena Sikri, representatives of ASEAN and the EU and more than a dozen South Asian and 40 Nepali delegates participated in the meet which was widely covered by the media.
CSAS organized a talk program on "U.S. Policy Towards South Asia" on Oct. 12, 2011 in Kathmandu. Prof. Robert K. Boggs, of the NESA Center, National Defense University of Washington D.C. along with John Wood, faculty member of the NESA Center and Col. Daniel E. Curfiss, Associate Professor at NESA spoke on the occasion. It was participated by a large number of NESA Center alumni based in Kathmandu.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav received the newly published book "Nepal's National Interests: Foreign Policy, Internal Security, Federalism and Energy-Economy" at a function held at the President's House on Aug. 4, 2011.
The book comprises of papers presented at 4 NNIP conferences in the last 2 years.
Director of CSAS Nishchal N. Pandey presented a paper at a seminar hosted by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung on 'Common Grounds: Ways to Regional Cooperation in South Asia' at Berlin Schwanenwerder. He interacted with a number of M.Ps of the CDU party, senior officials of the KAS, German Federal Foreign office, European Commission, NATO headquarters and various Institutes in Berlin and Brussels. The visit as part of the Consortium of South Asian Think-Tanks and consisted of Director's of think-tanks from SAARC countries and was organized by the KAS Regional Program-SAARC.
The GPPAC Regional Secretariat for South Asia is pleased to announce the launch of the GPPAC South Asia website. The website is hosted on the Peace Portal and offers information about the regional network's work in the fields of peacebuilding and conflict transformation, activities of its members, and other regional developments. It is also envisioned that the website will strengthen the connectivity between the civil society organizations working in the region.
