CSAS Director Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey participated in the ‘Asia-Pacific Think-Tank Summit’ held in Bangkok on Nov. 10-12, 2019. It was co-hosted by the UN-ESCAP and the University of Pennsylvania.


A regional conference in cooperation with Rule of Law Asia Programme of the KAS

A regional conference in cooperation with Rule of Law Asia Programme of the KAS was held on Sep. 11, 2019 in Kathmandu on 'Coordination in Management of Migrant Labour Issues among SAARC Nations' with senior diplomats of South Asia. Former Under Secretary General of the UN Gyan Chandra Acharya, Amb. Ranjit Rae (India), Amb. Arif Kamal (Pakistan), Amb. Javed Yusuf (Sri Lanka) and Ms. Marina Sultana (RMMRU, Dhaka) shed light on the theme.


GPPAC Regional Steering Group Meeting Held

Regional Steering Group meeting South Asia of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) was held in Kathmandu on June 30-July 4, 2019. A youth conference was organized by CSAS at the National College and a gender focal point meeting was also held with women M.Ps.



"COSATT Delegation to Heidelberg and Berlin May 5-8, 2019"

A COSATT delegation comprising of some of the prominent think-tanks of South Asia visited Heidelberg for the conference on 'Security and Economic Implications in the Indo-Pacific' organized by the Heidelberg University. The delegation also had meetings at the Bundestag, Federal Foreign office, GIGA and SWP among others.


Conference on ‘Security and Economic Challenges in the Indo-Pacific’

A conference on the above theme was held in Kathmandu on March 12-13, 2019 with heads of think-tanks, researchers and experts from across the region. Dr. Seshadri Chari, Amb. Sujan Chinoy, Dr. Suba Chandran, Prof. Swaran Singh, Maj. Gen. AKM Abdur Rahman, Mr. Hernaikh Singh among others presented their views. A book will be published soon on the conference.



'Book Discussion on Importance of BRI and BBIN for South Asia'

A book discussion was held on Dec. 28, 2019 in Kathmandu on the latest COSATT publication. Senior strategic analysts, academics and Nepali policy makers shed light on both the BRI and the BBIN for small countries of South Asia.























"CSAS-KAS regional conference on ‘Migration and Refugees in South Asia: Quest for a New Legal Regime’. "

In cooperation with the Rule of Law Asia Programme of the KAS, CSAS organized the above conference with lawyers and experts from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Myanmar. It was held in Kathmandu on Sep. 26. A large number of law students from the Kathmandu University also participated.


CSAS-ISAS-KAS workshop on BIMSTEC at 20: Priorities and Prospects

COSATT in collaboration with the ISAS, Singapore and KAS organized the above workshop in Singapore on Sep. 24, 2018. BIMSTEC Secretary General, ASEAN former SG, former DPM and foreign minister of Nepal among a range of experts and heads of think-tanks from BIMSTEC member states participated in the workshop.



'BIMSTEC: Connecting South and Southeast Asia'

CSAS organized by the above talk program on Aug. 24, 2018 wherein the Hon'ble Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali was the chief guest. Former Foreign Ministers Ramesh Nath Pandey and Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, former foreign secretary Madhu Raman Acharya and former ambassador Dr. Dinesh Bhattarai shed light on how Nepal can take advantage from the forthcoming 4th BIMSTEC Summit.

COSATT-KAS-BIISS conference on “Importance of BRI and BBIN for South Asia”

COSATT-KAS-BIISS conference on “Importance of BRI and BBIN for South Asia” was held in Dhaka on July 4-5, 2018. Honourable Foreign Minister of Bangladesh sent his message to the conference while Minister of State for Finance and Planning was present at the Valedictory session. Former Secretary of Commerce of Nepal, Heads and Representatives of Think-Tanks from South Asia including a large number of diplomats, officials, academics from Bangladesh participated in the 2-day event.


"GPPAC conference on Trends in Youth Radicalization in South Asia"

Director Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey spoke at the above conference held at the Ramada, Colombo on June 7, 2018. It was jointly organized by the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies and the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict. He also participated at the GPPAC Regional Steering Group Meeting held on June 8.


COSATT Conference on South Asia Amidst a New World Order”

COSATT held its regional conference on the above theme with participation of heads and representatives of think-tanks from all eight South Asian countries on March 25-26, 2018 in Kathmandu. Former Deputy PM of Nepal Upendra Yadav inaugurated the conference. A publication as proceedings of the conference will soon be published.

“CSAS-NESA-APCSS Seminar on Crisis Management in South Asia”

CSAS in cooperation with the NESA Center, NDU Washington D.C. and the APCSS, Hawaii organized the above seminar in Kathmandu on Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2018. Participants included heads and representatives of prominent think-tanks of South Asia and experts from the U.S. SAARC Secretary General Amjad Hussain B. Sial delivered the keynote address.


"CSAS-KAS-INSSSL organize International Workshop on 'Climate Change and Resource Security' in Colombo"

An international workshop on 'Climate Change and Resource Security:Challenges for Security and Security Sector in South Asia' was held at Hilton, Colombo on Nov. 30-Dec. 1, 2017. It was organized by CSAS in cooperation with the RECAP-KAS and the INSSSL. The workshop was inaugurated by the Defense Secretary of Sri Lanka. Large number of serving and retired senior officers of the tri-services of the region participated in the workshop.


CSAS-KAS Conference on “Promoting Rule of Law in South Asia”

CSAS in cooperation with the Rule of Law Programme of the KAS organized a one-day conference on Sep. 12, 2017. Dr. Mario Gomez, Director, International Centre for Ethnic Studies, Colombo, Ms. Ayreen Khan, Media Personality, Dhaka, Mr. Faisal Malik Buttar, Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, Pakistan, Advocate Sajjan Bar Singh Thapa, Supreme Court, Nepal and Mr. Rishabh Sahu, Senior Standing Counsel for Government of India Central Administrative Tribunal were main speakers at the conference. Chief Guest was Hon’ble Justice Salahuddin Akhtar Siddiqui, Appellate Court, Nepal. Mrs. Gisela Elsner of the KAS also spoke on the occasion.

"COSATT-ISAS Workshop on “Re-Energizing the SAARC Process” held in Singapore"

COSATT held the above mentioned workshop with participation of 3 former ministers, former foreign secretary, diplomats, heads of some of the prominent think-tanks of South Asia in Singapore on Aug. 21, 2017. Latest COSATT publication “Countering Youth Radicalization and Violent Extremism in South Asia’ was launched on the occasion. The event was held in cooperation with the Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore.


"Regional Cooperation in Migration Management and Refugee Protection"

Director of the CSAS Dr. Nishchalnath Pandey participated in a meeting on ‘Regional Cooperation in Migration Management and Refugee Protection’ organized by the KAS, New York Office in New York on May 21-24, 2017. A study project on the same subject has been initiated by the KAS and will be completed by early next year.

"COSATT Kathmandu conference on countering youth radicalization in south asia, Feb. 27-28, 2017"

CSAS-COSATT organized a regional conference on “Countering Youth Radicalization in South Asia” in Kathmandu on Feb. 27-28, 2017. COSATT is supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Speakers from all eight SAARC countries spoke on various facets of the radicalization problem faced by the region.


"CSAS-EU-DAI seminar on Making Labour Migration Easy and Safe in South Asia"

CSAS in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Nepal and the DAI organized a regional seminar on the above topic on Dec. 2, 2016 in Kathmandu. Member of the National Planning Commission Dr. Swarnim Wagle was the chief guest while experts from across the region gave presentations.

"COSATT Planning Meeting held in Bangkok"

COSATT held its Planning Meeting-2017 at Hotel Plaza Athenee in Bangkok with representations from most of the COSATT member institutions including Director of the ISAS, Singapore. On the occasion, Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy, Director of the KAS Regional Programme Political Dialogue Asia and the Pacific launched a new COSATT book “Refugees and IDPs in South Asia”.

  • Director Pandey was Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), an autonomous Institute under the National University of Singapore from 2006-2007 and is currently Honourary Fellow of the ISAS. While at ISAS, he authored the book 'India's North- Eastern Region: Insurgency, Economic Development and Linkages with South East Asia' published jointly by ISAS and Manohar Publishers, Delhi.
  • Director Pandey is at present International Research Committee member of the Regional Centre for strategic Studies (RCSS), Colombo.
  • Director Pandey was Journal Referee in 2008 of Strategic Analysis, published by Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi.

CSAS Organizes Talk Program on the Kumbh Mela
Mr. Saurabh Pandey of the India Think Council gave a talk on the Kumbh Mela on June 30, 2019 in Kathmandu. The Kumbh is the largest congregation of humans in the world. Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, former foreign ministers Ramesh Nath Pandey and Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat along with intellectuals participated at the gathering.
