"COSATT Kathmandu conference on countering youth radicalization in south asia, Feb. 27-28, 2017"

CSAS-COSATT organized a regional conference on “Countering Youth Radicalization in South Asia” in Kathmandu on Feb. 27-28, 2017. COSATT is supported by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Speakers from all eight SAARC countries spoke on various facets of the radicalization problem faced by the region.

"CSAS-EU-DAI seminar on Making Labour Migration Easy and Safe in South Asia"

CSAS in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Nepal and the DAI organized a regional seminar on the above topic on Dec. 2, 2016 in Kathmandu. Member of the National Planning Commission Dr. Swarnim Wagle was the chief guest while experts from across the region gave presentations.

"COSATT Planning Meeting held in Bangkok"

COSATT held its Planning Meeting-2017 at Hotel Plaza Athenee in Bangkok with representations from most of the COSATT member institutions including Director of the ISAS, Singapore. On the occasion, Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy, Director of the KAS Regional Programme Political Dialogue Asia and the Pacific launched a new COSATT book “Refugees and IDPs in South Asia”.

COSATT Colombo Conference on 'IDPs and Migration'

COSATT conference on "IDPs and Migration in South Asia" was organized by CSAS in cooperation with the RCSS, and Political Dialogue Asia and the Pacific Programme of the KAS in Colombo on Aug. 25-26, 2016. Heads and representatives of member thinks-tanks participated in the conference which was inaugurated by Minister DM Swaminathan M.P. of Sri Lanka. The hallmark of the event was a special address on "Migration in Times of Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities" by Dr. Klaus Schueler, Federal Director of the CDU party of Germany.

Regional Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

CSAS in cooperation with the EU, IUCN and DAI organized a regional conference on the above theme in Kathmandu on May 26-27, 2016. Deputy PM Bhim Bahadur Rawal inaugurated the conference. Keynote speaker was Ambassador of the Delegation of EU to Nepal and SAARC Rensje Teerink. Experts and mediapersons from all the SAARC countries participated in the event.

CSAS-COSATT in cooperation with the KAS organized a regional conference on the above theme on May 2-3, 2016 in Kathmandu which was inaugurated by Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Anup Raj Sharma. "CSAS-KAS Seminar on Local Governance in South Asia"

CSAS in cooperation with the Rule of Law Programme of the KAS organized the above seminar on March 8, 2016. Inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa, the seminar had Capt. Anant Modi (Mumbai), Badiul Alam Majumdar (Dhaka), Judge Pema Rinzin (Bhutan), constitutional expert Dr. Bipin Adhikari and Advocate Ram Krishan Timalsina as speakers. Head of the Rule of Law Programme Gisela Elsner also spoke on the occasion.

Director Pandey attends seminar on "Trans-Regional Stability: Imperatives of Change"

Organized by the NDU, Islamabad on Feb. 22-23, 2016, the seminar had participants from India, China, U.S., Russian Federation, Australia and Pakistan. Dr. Pandey gave a presentation at the seminar.

COSATT Planning Meeting-2016 held in Singapore

A planning meeting of the COSATT-2016 was held at the Hotel Pan Pacific, Singapore on Jan. 28, 2016 with participation from heads of think-tanks of the network. The new Head of the political dialogue programme-Asia of the KAS Dr. Beatrice Gorawantschy participated at the meeting. Some delegates also participated by skype. A policy paper will soon be published as an outcome of the event.

Director Pandey speaks at the South Asian Economic Conclave

Director of CSAS Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey spoke at the above conclave organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in New Delhi on Sep. 28-Oct. 1, 2015. It was participated by ministers, industrialists, media and academics from all the 8 SAARC countries.

Bangkok Conference on “Disaster Management: Experience Sharing from South and Southeast Asia”

CSAS in cooperation with the KAS under the auspices of the COSATT organized the above conference on Aug. 20-21, 2015 in Bangkok. COSATT member think-tanks and senior experts including former environment minister of The Maldives, participated in the event. There was participation also from Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Regional Conference on “Integrating Global Responses to Climate Change and Energy Security”

CSAS-KAS organized the above conference in Kathmandu on July 7-8, 2015 with experts from all 8 SAARC countries. Hon’ble Dr. Govinda Raj Pokharel, Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission was the chief guest. Publication as an outcome of this event will soon be published.

Harvard Kennedy School Program on “Terrorism as a Threat to Global Security”

Director of the CSAS Dr. Nishchal N. Pandey participated in the above event at the Kennedy School of the Harvard University, Boston from April 26-May 1, 2015. It was part of the U.S.-South Asia Leader Engagement Program jointly organized by the Kennedy School and the NESA Center, NDU.

Judge Marc Spitzkatz speaks on 'Separation of Powers'

In cooperation with the Rule of Law Program of the KAS, a talk program on "Separation of Powers in Theory and Practice" was organized by the CSAS on March 3, 2015 in Kathmandu. Judge Marc Spitzkatz of the Regional Court, Berlin who is also head of the Rule of Law Program of the KAS was the main speaker. Ambassador of Germany to Nepal Matthias Meyer, Legal Advisor to the President of Nepal Advocate Lalit Basnet, Advocate Sajjan Bar Singh Thapa and Advocate Dilmani Pokharel of the supreme court also spoke on the occasion.

CSAS-KAS-COSATT Regional Conference on Deeper Integration

A regional conference on 'Deeper Integration for Peace and Prosperity in the South Asian Region' was held in Kathmandu on Feb. 26-27, 2015. Participated by heads of think-tanks and experts from the region, the event was inaugurated by Foreign Secretary of Nepal Shankar Bairagi. Spokesperson of the BJP party of India MJ Akbar was the keynote speaker. CSAS will soon bring out a publication of this program.

  • Director Pandey was Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), an autonomous Institute under the National University of Singapore from 2006-2007 and is currently Honourary Fellow of the ISAS. While at ISAS, he authored the book 'India's North- Eastern Region: Insurgency, Economic Development and Linkages with South East Asia' published jointly by ISAS and Manohar Publishers, Delhi.
  • Director Pandey is at present International Research Committee member of the Regional Centre for strategic Studies (RCSS), Colombo.
  • Director Pandey was Journal Referee in 2008 of Strategic Analysis, published by Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi.
